This is totally naive question. I was talking to a friend, and we got to wondering how economically feasible it would be for there to exist a commercial airship cruise line. Essentially for leisurely, luxury type transportation. Say for a person to go from New york to London, or California to Hawaii in a blimp, rather than a cruise ocean liner.

I figure it's got to be totally unrealistic otherwise people would be doing it!

Let me know!

Dear Mr. Schafer,

Your suggestion is absolutely NOT unrealistic, on the contrary. At present, our company, Rigid Airship Design in The Netherlands is designing and constructing classic rigid airships for the purposes you mentioned. A blimp is not able to do so but a rigid is. Take the time to visit our web-site at http://www.rigidair.com

I have on my web site the information brochure for the major air show at Moffett Field, on the San Francisco peninsula. It will be held Saturday, June 19th and Sunday June 20th, 1999. This is the show that for years was held at Watsonville, California.

On my Moffett Field Museum page there's also a few photos of Moffett Field when the dirigible Macon was housed there in the 1930s, if you're interested.

Go to http://www.jimlyons.com/moffettfieldmuseum.html and push '1999 Air Show' or scroll down the page for Macon photos.
