Hi, I hope my question does not offend anyone. I am new to newsgroups in general.

Before I got married, my name was John Jeffries. In 1785 Dr John Jeffries (my great great ...) and Pierre Brouchard were the first men to cross the English Channel in a balloon. Until a year ago my father had a print of a drawing of Dr Jeffries with his weather instruments in the balloon. This print had a naturally high sentimental value, but almost no financial value. While they were moving out of Medford, MA, the print was stolen. I am hoping to be able to replace this print. If I could find a copy I would buy it. If I could find a computer image, I would doctor it up as much as possible and the print a copy. Do any of you have anything that could help me?

Thanks, John Morris

Actually Brouchard came from a French bakery. But seriously, E-bay has recently had a couple of contemporary articles about the flight for sale. I would suggest that you do a search (including description) weekly for Blanchard Jeffries.

I'll bet you get a lot of stuff shortly.

There was an airmail cover that was carried on the first crossing of the English channel by hot air balloon, too. It wasn't either Blanchard or the baker.
