Dear Balloonists,

Happy new year to all!

I am from Buffalo, NY. Are any of you from near here? I am involved with a kiteclub which is this year celebrating its 15th anniversary. Any way we can get some interest from some of you in the way of participation?

Our event is in August, 2003 .

Our 10th Anniversary was big! We want our 15th to be HUGE!!!

Any help would be appreciated. I'm sure you balloon guys are like kite guys, NICE Guys!

I look forward to hearing from you!

Mike...You do realize that the two sports are incompatible. If the wind is fast enough for good kite flying it is too swift for good ballooning. That said, many balloonists, including me, carry kites to balloon rallies.

Actually, they are quite compatible as you just pointed out. When it's too windy for the balloons, you can do the kites. If it isn't too windy for the balloons, it probably isn't windy enough for the kites. I enjoy both!

I carry the kite to fly AFTER ballooning, not for instead of. If I cancel for wind I do something else...sightsee, breakfast, etc. Kiting would prove a poor substitute at best.

True, it's not as exhilarating, but it can be a lot of fun, especially if you have some nice kites. Just plain old box, deltas, or whatever aren't as much fun as others.
