I guess no one has posted messages about the attempts as all the details can be found on the web.

I would love to have had an opportunity to see one of the flights but when Steve flew over the UK it was overcast skies. Pity he had to abort the trip still there are sseveral more to have another go.

Whats the betting that no one makes it this year?

ok, my mistake. just check'd a few websites and they're using a combination of helium & hot air. although, the helium balloon is much smaller than the hot air portion.

what are the rule for this race anyway? why doesn't anyone try Helium? or dare i say Hydrogen? instead of Hot Air.

btw - PBS ran program on last year's race. not sure if it was NOVA or not.

Kevin Uliassi's envelope had the capacity to hold 280,000 cubic feet of helium, and 120,000 cubic feet of hot air.

They are all flying Rozier balloons. The PBS program was NOVA.
