What is a typical value for the maximum temperature reached by the heated air inside a hot air balloon?

Depends on the fabric and the balloon manufacturer's rating. Typically a maximum of 250 degrees Fahrenheit with a normal operating temperature of 180 degrees Fahrenheit.

Well, seems to me that the 250 figure is the redline on NYLON balloons AT THEIR SKIN. DACRON balloons redline at 300 degrees Fahrenheit AT THE SKIN. Deep in the core of the balloon the temperatures are much hotter and can reach over 400 degrees. Depending on what your question was pointed at you could use any of these figures or some weighted average in between.
