Hello,

I have an opportunity to get an older balloon in trade, and I was curious as to the approximate value. Can anyone help me with that? Or are older balloons not worth much at all?

The balloon is supposed to be a 68,000 cubic foot three-burner Don Piccard Model (I believe 1973 vintage) complete with wicker basket and instrument panel. It has four propane canisters, which are supposedly worth $400 each. The guy who put it up as collateral to the guy I might be getting it from, claimed that the balloon was worth $20,000 plus.

It's supposed to be a pretty complete system, except for the inflator fan. It's been stored in a garage in Souther California for a few years... before that I don't know the history.

I don't know hardly anything about balloons and was wondering if it might be worth at least 2 or 3 thousand? What are envelopes of that era usually made out of, and how long do they last?

I suppose I could see if the owner could find some serial numbers or model numbers off it, if there was a place to look up the info. I doubt any logbooks or anything like that are available though.

thanks,

I will give you a simple and fast reply this is a balloon for the museum / hall of fame / collectors item ?

It's a ripp off ! forget the deal !

When you are in to ballooning expect to invest at least $10.000 for a nice secondhand system with known history (logbook) and now more than 200 hours total time (TT)
