I don't know about anyone else but I got regular updates, followed it in newspapers and on TV and used the website http://www.solospirit.wustl.edu/ .

I agree with you Tony - if this is supposed to be a balloon website where is Steve Fossett ?

How could you follow it from the newspapers and TV - The reports were garbage and usually a day or more late. One report here in Australia had Steve Fossett just south of LA when he was really over Easter Island.

Without the website the whole trip would have been missed.

Thought the maps at website were poor and I found much Steve's trip extremely interesting to following using the data file on the web site.

My geography of the south pacific and south america has substantially improved. Wish I had a better map of along the Flight path where Steve crossed from Argentine to Brazil and perhaps into Uruguay and then back to Brazil. Did he really cross into Uruguay - yes said the website but maybe not from the co-ordinates given.

A few more photos from South America would also have been interesting.

I received (just the ones I kept) sixty-one e-mail messages from the period July 5-August relating the status of the flight. These were posted on Dave Temple's UK-based Balloon Reflector. John Esserman posted (usually twice daily) progress reposts directly received from the command center. You talk as if you doubted me. Would I have liked more? Certainly, but much of the flight reports consist of 'Ops normal' reports.

Will look up the info at Balloon Reflector.

The official website was good but maybe could have been enhanced by further info, on-board web camera/digital camera, more detailed maps.

Given most of the journey is over the sea, maybe all this is a bit boring.

Just thought the print media details were pretty poor except for some lifted straight from the official website.

The report linked here was good on abcnews.go.com
http://abcnews.go.com/sections/scitech/DailyNews/ fossettquits010817.html

I was also able to find coverage from the local newspaper in Porto Allegre, Brazil.
